On January 17-19, 2020, Ali Temple No. 257 celebrated its second anniversary as a legally, constituted and organized temple in the Oasis of Jacksonville, Desert of North Carolina. This most humbling and auspicious honor was granted by the 42nd Past Imperial Potentate, Carl D. Parker, of the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrines of North & South America in Jurisdiction, Inc.
The atmosphere during the days and weeks leading up to the anniversary was filled with excitement because of the temple’s accomplishments from last year. The name “ALI” means he that is exalted high, champion and strength. The community and guests who traveled far and near, along with patrons who heard about the anniversary weekend all received the best southern hospitality ever. We assisted guests by unloading their luggage during check-in at the host hotel (Hampton Inn) and ensured everyone’s cup remained filled with libations. Food remained hot and plentiful for everyone to eat, to include the hotel staff. Overall, there were lots of laughs, great music, hugs and a lot of picture taking.
The Nobles of Ali Temple No. 257 exemplify strength and being champions because the Nobles went the extra mile to ensure the guests’ needs were accommodated as much as possible and that everyone enjoyed themselves. I believe this is the reason why the community supports Ali Temple in such a mighty way.
Here are the highlights from the temple’s anniversary weekend:
Friday, January 17, 2020:
•The 2nd Anniversary Gala weekend started off with a comedy show featuring returning, seasoned comedians Mckinley E. Bryson aka “Grave Digger,” Dante Holt and Johnnie Smith aka “2 Cups.”
• Daughters were introduced and presented by the current Illustrious Potentate, John B. Withers, Jr. and Ali Court UD’s first elected Illustrious Commandress Theresa Walker Fleming. The ladies were led in a confident strut by Daughter Janeisha Terry. The message: Daughters of Ali Court UD have arrived!
Saturday, January 18, 2020:
•The brisk cold evening weather afforded attendees a great opportunity to don their fur coats, coats with fur collars, gloves and clutches with fur trimming. This was not a boring night for fashion! The men’s formal hat styles fluctuated from Fedora, Trilby, and Bowler Hats. Two Nobles with Ali Temple No. 257 are notoriously known for their hats and colorful schemed socks. I walked into Hollywood Glamour meets Harlem Renaissance.
The Nobles of Ali Temple strive hard to make positive and grand impacts in our city, our community and our nation. We are looking forward to the temple’s third anniversary weekend celebration (15-16 January 2021) and we hope to see you in the beautiful Oasis of Jacksonville, Desert of North Carolina.
